  1. On Election Day I was anxious and had too much energy to work in the office all day. It seemed under control, so I went out canvassing with a volunteer that showed up alone.

We canvassed in Ward 1. I walked up to a house where two individuals - son and mother - sat talking. The son said he voted that morning and was about to go pick up his wife from work and she would be voting too.

He proudly pointed to his mother and said, "Tell her what you did this morning, Ma."

She was probably in her late 70's or 80's and emphatically said to me, "I voted this morning too. The last time I voted was in 1964."

I was SO THRILLED that someone had found hope for real change; and believed it enough to get out and vote - feeling that THIS TIME, their vote would make a difference.

It made the hard work and time sacrifices well worth it - to see hope in an 80-year-old woman's eyes!
